Welcome to the Hemorroids Help Guide

There are times when the lower rectal area or the mouth of the anus and the region surrounding these two, experience a strange phenomenon where the veins or blood vessels become inflamed and swollen.

There are two kinds of hemorrhoids – external and internal, their symptoms are pretty similar mostly, the difference is that internal hemorrhoids usually do not cause any pain except in extreme cases and external hemorrhoids are usually painful.

There are many reasons why hemorrhoids develop. The main reasons are definitely constipation where an individual has to strain very hard and put pressure to pass stool, if the bowel movement is difficult and the hard stool while passing down rubs against the internal hemorrhoid, if a lady is pregnant because the weight of the baby creates pressure on the anus and the vagina, due to lack of vitamins in the body and because of genetic predisposition because hemorrhoids or piles often run in certain families.

When a person stands for too long or leads a sedentary lifestyle and does not exercise, eats a diet rich in oily fatty buttery food, red meat, white flour products etc and low on fiber or has poor bowel routine or poor sitting habits in the toilet like the kind seen in Indian toilets, that individual may develop hemorrhoids.
This is a very common condition seen in mostly males and 50% of pregnant women or women who have just delivered a child.

Thus apart from straining to pass stool, some other factors as causes of hemorrhoids, may be pinpointed as diarrhea, passing of mucus, chronic constipation, ageing, chronic straining or putting pressure etc. However even young people nowadays are getting hemorrhoids and it can happen at any age.

Sometimes the most common treatment that can cure hemorrhoids and make the symptoms disappear are the natural treatments, dietary modifications like incorporating more fiber and fluid in the diet, rectification of sitting postures in the toilet etc. Of course there are other treatments like sclerotherapy, hemorrhoidectomy, rubber band ligation etc.

Hemorrhoid symptoms are mainly pain in the anal region, difficulty in passing stool, a feeling of fullness even after passing bowel, a burning sensation, itchiness, a bit of blood discharge while passing stool etc.
